This month's full moon is called a supermoon because it appears larger than at any other time of the year.īecause the moon's orbit around the earth is not circular, it is sometimes a little closer and sometimes a little further away, and the exact distance at full moon will change from month to month throughout the year. The actual maximum supermoon occurs around six hours after the moonset shown in the photo over Glastonbury Tor. Local photographer Ian Humphreys, who is a member of Wells and Mendip Astronomers, captured this amazing photo of the supermoon behind Glastonbury Tor in the early hours of this morning (May 7).
